2024 Chinese Dragon Spring Festival

The illustration project is a commission by One Villain and 49 Horses, applying for calendars.

This work takes the Chinese Spring Festival traditional culture and intangible cultural heritage as its theme, combines elements of the Year of the Dragon, and integrates dragon images of different shapes into the traditional culture and intangible cultural heritage content. Dragon, in traditional Chinese culture, means auspicious blessings and carries good meanings. If you see a Chinese dragon that is not in physical form, then you are seeing a real Chinese dragon. This work aims to use different folk dragon shapes to express blessings for auspicious and happy life.

The shape of the Chinese dragon head in the picture is inspired by the Dragon Lantern Festival on the river, an intangible cultural heritage. The decorations on the dragon's head convey traditional auspicious meanings: like a tiger spreading its wings, deer and cranes welcoming the spring, flowers blooming, peace and prosperity, advancement, and auspiciousness like a fish.
